This position requires the employee to reside within the service area of BTES.
Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering required, awarded from an accredited Engineering college. Completed coursework in power systems, control systems, telecommunications, and programming is suggested but not required.
Experience: Thorough knowledge of engineering techniques and/or experience in writing programs and ESRI based mapping software, AutoCAD. Experience with Java/C+, Operation Systems – Linux/Unix/Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP/Vista/7/8, Software Packages – Adobe, Microsoft Office 2000/2003/2007/2010. Knowledge of computer networking and PC troubleshooting including routers, hubs, switches, DHCP, DNS and protocols is a plus, as well as experience in telecommunication systems and phone provisioning.
Objectives: To design new electric and fiber optic infrastructure while maintaining existing facilities (fiber optic switches, routers, patch panels, high-voltage transmission and distribution lines, transformers, breakers, switches, relaying, and other substation equipment), identify areas of improvement and lead teams to implement changes as needed. Design and maintain communication systems used to operate the electrical system including mobile radio, SCADA, automation equipment, load management, relaying, and fiber optics. Work with fiber optic installers/contractors on installing new fiber optic services. Maintain existing software systems used for automatic outage reporting, load management, automated meter reading, and others.
