This position requires the employee to reside within the service area of BTES.
Education: Associates of Applied Science in Electrical Technology required.
Experience: Specific experience not required, though prior experience in customer contact and/or serving customers is preferred.
Abilities & Skills: Physically able to work outside in all types of weather including extreme temperatures, ability to climb, and do heavy manual work.
Other: No abnormal fear of dogs. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be willing to work overtime as required and be on call.
Objectives
- To read residential and commercial meters and to record the readings; to observe and report unusual or abnormal conditions related to customer meters and/or electricity usage including suspected meter tampering.
- To perform meter turn-ons, turn-offs, and collections.
- To install, remove, and maintain equipment necessary for the Load Management Program.
- To install, maintain, and troubleshoot the fiber optic system.
- Ability to walk, stand, stoop, and/or sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to operate assigned equipment
- Push, pull, or lift equipment or supplies
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 45lbs. repeatedly throughout the shift
- Ability to be exposed to air contaminants, confined workspaces, dirt, and animals
- Ability to accurately read, record, and document meter readings from distances of 3 to 10 feet respectively.
- Ability to deal with unfriendly pets and read meters at expected standard rate.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations quickly and accurately; learn operation of hand-held computers, tablets, meter routes, meter operation, and drive truck to assigned
- areas as needed.
- Ability to bend, twist, squat, climb, and kneel to perform job duties.
- Requires manual dexterity in use of meter reading devices and in making basic diagrams.
- Requires working alone or in close proximity with other employees.
- Ability to maneuver in and out of a vehicle repeatedly.
- Ability to be at work as scheduled and as needed and participate on call as assigned.
