Notice of Local Traffic Impacts Associated with TVA Transmission Improvements

TVA is currently constructing transmission infrastructure improvements that will support growing industrial load and increase power reliability for customers of BTES. TVA aims to minimize local impacts while constructing a new 10.4-mile 161kV transmission line to serve BTES’ South Bristol delivery point.

All the dates below are subject to change pending weather and work conditions.

Work between TVA Structures 8-9, crossing State Highway 19E near Old Elizabethton Highway, will start Monday, June 2, and will last approximately one week. During this time:

  • State Route 19 will be reduced to one lane in both directions near the intersection of Old Elizabethton Highway.
  • Lanes will re-open each day once daily construction activities are completed.

Work between TVA structures 45-46, crossing Rockhold Road near Jobe Road, will start Monday, July 7, and will last approximately one week. During this time:

  • Flaggers will be located on State Route 44 (Rockhold Road) in the vicinity of the intersection with Old Weaver Pike.
  • No lane closures are expected. Please be aware of and responsive to traffic control personnel. Flaggers will stop traffic if conditions dictate.

Work between TVA structures 54-55, crossing Big Springs Road and the Holston River near river mile marker 40.5, will tentatively start Monday, July 21, and will last approximately two weeks. During this time:

  • Crews will be crossing the South Holston River with the new transmission line.
  • Traffic on Big Springs Road and Bullock Hollow Road near the intersection with Paddle Creek Road may be impacted, including temporary closures.
  • Please be aware of and responsive to traffic control personnel. Flaggers will stop traffic if conditions dictate.
  • Flaggers will be located along the South Holtson River and will notify boaters and recreation users of any emergency need to avoid the construction area.

Work between TVA structures 74-75, crossing Weaver Pike near Morse Drive, will tentatively start Monday, August 4, and will last approximately one week. During this time:

  • Flaggers will be located on State Route 358 (Weaver Pike) in the vicinity of the intersection with Morse Drive.
  • No lane closures are expected. Please be aware of and responsive to traffic control personnel. Flaggers will stop traffic if conditions dictate.

There will be impacts to other secondary roadways in the Bluff City, Tennessee, area starting in May and lasting through September. Heavy trucks and construction equipment will be utilizing local roadways, with frequent stops and turns onto non-paved access points.
